WITH the incredibly popular DC character Wonder Woman finally getting her own movie after years in developmental hell, audiences across the world flocked to the blockbuster epic, making it the single highest-grossing release for a blockbuster directed by a woman.
As well as introducing the take-no-shit character to a new generation of young women starved of a heroine that they could relate to in a sea of testosterone-heavy action flicks with only token female characters, the movie has left millions of boyfriends and husbands wondering if it’s okay to watch such an empowering feminist piece while still getting a semi at the sight of gorgeous lead actress Gal Gadot.
“My girlfriend was in tears at the sight of such a strong female character fighting against evil men,” said one Waterford man who only went to see Wonder Woman after having agreed to do so if his girlfriend sat through Fast And Furious movies for the next 15 years.
“And I was nearly in tears too, trying to keep himself quiet at the sight of her in that costume… does that make me a bad person? Is it like laughing during Angelas Ashes? Saying ‘nice coat’ during Schindler’s List?”
