THE BLOCKBUSTER motion picture Mattress Mick v Harvey Norman shattered all Irish box office records at the weekend, and experts predict that it may be on its way to becoming the highest-grossing picture of all time in Ireland.

The long-awaited face off between the two giants of bedding and soft furnishings made €20million over the four day weekend, despite facing heavy competition from the 1916 centenary celebrations.

Revolving around the battle between Dublin-based mattress expert Michael Flynn, better known as his alter-ego Mattress Mick, and the huge Australian company headed by Gerry Harvey and Ian Norman, who merge to form the terrifying Harvey Norman.

Critics have called the movie unwatchable, with many saying that they would rather visit either company’s showrooms so that they could ‘sleep in peace’. However, despite the critical drubbing, audiences have been flocking to the movie in droves.

“10 out of 10. Stunning. I’ve seen it four times now,” said one cinema-goer, cosplaying as Mattress Micks sidekick, Pillowcase Paula.

“Critics don’t know what they’re talking about. As for people who are slagging it without even seeing it, they’re just Des Kelly fanboys who are just butthurt that MMvHN is doing so well”.

Large portions of the revenue has come from IMAX and 3D screenings, which fans have said is “the only way to watch the movie in all its glory”.
