Pierce Brosnan Denies Ever Being James Bond

VETERAN actor Pierce Brosnan has issued a statement in which he vehemently denies having portrayed the popular spy character “James Bond”, claiming that he is sick of these unfounded attempts to attach his name to that series of films.

Navan native Brosnan is widely believed to have been active as 007 from 1995 to 2002, a particularly troubled time for the series due to the release of atrocities such as Die Another Day. Most people believe Brosnan’s part in the Bond movies are common knowledge, and refuse to believe the 62-year-old’s claim that he is an actor who has never played 007.

Speaking at a Pierce Brosnan rally yesterday, the 62-year-old once again stated that at no time now, or in the past, had he ever starred in a movie where he drove a gadget laden car in a battle against an evil mastermind bent on world domination, nor had he ever uttered the phrase “the name’s Bond, James Bond”.

“These allegations are just attempts by other actors to sully my reputation and advance their own agenda,” said Brosnan, currently filming an as-yet untitled thriller in which he bears a striking resemblance to Sinn Féin leader Gerry Adams.

“Many of the people who are claiming that I held a high-ranking position in the 007 series weren’t even alive at the time, and have no idea what it was like to be an actor back then. I do remember when those Bond movies came out, but I was in no way a member of the cast, nor was I actively involved in their production or distribution”.

Brosnan went on to deny that the existence of today’s 007 movies, claiming that the series is “a thing of the past, completely over and done with” despite the recent release of Spectre, considered by some to be a James Bond movie.
