Cork Announce Events Around County To Mark 12 Days Since Cillian Murphy Oscar Win

IT MAY seem like an age ago since Cillian Murphy won his Best Actor award at the Oscars and local Corkonians are banding together so this piece of history isn’t forgotten.

“Anniversaries like this don’t come along every day. It’s just mad to think it’s been 12 days isn’t it? I was just a whipper snapper back then,” explained local historian Colm Sullivan who is a guide on the Cillian Murphy Oscar Trail Cork Tour which takes in all the key locations of Cork.

“And here’s where I texted my Dublin brother-in-law to say ‘Colin fucking Farrell hasn’t got one, has he?'” Sullivan told a group of Chinese tourists as his eyes filled up with tears.

The Cork Opera House will play host to an evening of song and celebration marking the 12 days since the actor’s triumph while all bridges and building will be given new plaques paying tribute to the fact Cillian Murphy is from Cork.

“I think the plaques just say ‘CORK’ in big fuck off writing, it’s the best €14mn the council has ever spent,” explained one local councillor.

Other significant milestones included the opening of the ‘How His Corkness Is The Reason Cillian Murphy Won His Oscar’ museum exhibition which is told across 6 floors.

“We’re in the middle of construction work so mind your head, the 7th, 8th and 9th floors should be added to the museum soon,” explained project lead on the museum Yvonne Courtney.

All attempts to smuggle drugs ashore in West Cork have been suspended for the day with boats opting instead to gather in a formation which spells out ‘Cillian did it for Cork’.
