Plans For James Dyson €30m Ballynatray House Renovation Revealed
Plans for a radical redesign of Ballynatray House in Waterford, owned by vacuum entrepreneur James Dyson, have sparked anger among locals, WWN has learned.
The billionaire businessman intends to convert the 300-year-old mansion taking the old dusty abode out of the past and giving it a ’21st-century upgrade’: a six-storey fibreglass extension in Dyson’s signature design style.
“It looks like a fucking spaceship designed by someone who was dropped on their head,” fumed local man Derry Hayes at a packed community meeting called to raise concerns over the project.
The redesign also includes purple perspex ‘viewing areas’ overlooking the Blackwater River, while the entire historic interior of the house is set to be demolished and gutted.
A spokesperson for Dyson attempted to defend the plan: “The new off-grid house is fully self-cleaning and will not require any staff or maintenance. Sure, it looks different, but we’ve met planning criteria, we’ve kept the original shell, and frankly we believe this design represents a huge aesthetic improvement – not just to the property, but to this entire shithole area.”
Construction has been delayed as builders have lost the little suction extension thingy for the new wing of the house.
