COYBIG: Limerick Jersey Seen On Russian Missiles Aimed At Ukraine
NO MATTER the occasion, no matter how monumental or indeed how remote, the Irish are always bound crop up in a GAA jersey and a pint in hand, and the front lines of the Russian military’s assault on Ukraine is no different.
Pictures coming into WWN show a Limerick jersey draped over a missile destined for a Ukrainian town, in tribute to Limerick based metals refinery from which the Russia gets 40% of its total alumina supply, the majority of which is used in the accumulation of Russian war crimes.
“Ah jaysus, we’re everywhere wha? There’s always one! What are we fecking like” confirmed good-natured craic loving commenter underneath the picture which has been shared around social media.
An investigation by The Irish Times and the Organised Crime and Corruption Reporting Project has revealed that alumina refined at Aughinish Alumina in Limerick makes its way to the Russian military effort through a number of intermediaries used by parent company of the plant, the Russian owned Rusal.
Responding to the shocking news of Irish involvement in Russia’s war, the Irish government was unequivocal in its condemnation.
“Eh, actually, I think you’ll find alumina is not subject to any sanctions so this all fine, what’s the big deal, it’s only used in tanks and missiles and the like? Ah g’way with your moaning, sure if they didn’t supply minerals for the Russia murder machine the jobs down there would be gone,” confirmed the government.
“To suggest that the company’s main shareholder Oleg Deripaska, who was sanctioned for interfering in the 2016 US elections, could be some sort of shady character is plain wrong”.
Meanwhile, several locals TDs got into a fist fight over who would have the honour of cutting the red ribbon with a giant novelty scissors in the event of more jobs being created at the plant.
