THERE ARE CONCERNS for Ireland’s carbon emissions as Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael set about burning their election manifestos which contained a pledge to cap childcare costs at €200 a month.

The move comes after prices are to be raised at 20% of childcare providers.

“It’s your own fault for believing us,” the parties told disgruntled voters who were left shocked at the news of increases.

“Don’t be shy, if ye have anything else to burn, pledges on hospital trolleys, housing targets, this fire is for everyone,” insisted Helen McEntee as the pyre burned intensely.

Their shirts marked by soot and the smell of charred paper lingering on their clothes, the coalition government confirmed their own shock at how shocked people were that they have performed on u-turn on their election pledges.

“Ah come, we thought you knew the drill by now, sure it was only a few weeks ago we explained ‘yes, we said we’d built 40,000 houses last year but we didn’t get around to it in the end. Thanks for voting for us all the same’. You just sort of say anything to get elected,” the Junior Minister for Broken Election Promises shared with WWN.

Government TDs said they have every intention of responding to irate correspondences from parents who voted for the coalition but right now they’re off for a knees up or five around the world for Paddy’s Day.
