Outrage As Musgrave Win Naming Rights To New Storm
A REVENUE generating measure pursued by Met Éireann that will see the meteorological service of Ireland offering naming rights of storms to leading brands has been criticised by diehard storm fans in Ireland.
“I’ve waited my whole life for a storm to be named after me and now a company can just swoop and name them after themselves for a king’s ransom. Disgrace,” said one local Izzy, Naoise and Darragh in unison.
Identifying the panic buying potential in storms which can lead to increased sales of bread and milk, Musgrave have bought the naming rights to Ireland’s next five storms, something a spokesperson for the retail outfit said was a no brainer.
“We appreciate people will take some time to get used to it, but we’re open to calling in Storm Darragh Sponsored by Supervalu by Musgrave, or Presented By Musgrave Storm Darragh,” explained the spokesperson.
Musgrave outbid Ireland’s largest Trampoline seller Boing Boing to the first batch of storms, with future plans in place to offer naming rights for typhoons, tsunamis, hurricanes and depressingly grey days.
“We understand the public feeling but how do you think we pay for those graphics in weather reports? And if Mugraves aren’t your thing don’t worry we have Woodies signed on to sponsor any storm with strong enough gusts to flatten your shed,” offered one Met Éireann official.
