NO LONGER required to deliver much needed track-side therapy to devastated Irish athletes who agonisingly missed out on medals and places in finals, RTÉ’s David Gillick has reportedly struggled to put down his microphone and was pictured on Dublin’s N11 this morning, consoling one commuter who missed his bus for work.

“Look it wasn’t your day, hitting the snooze button has happened to some of the best IT professionals in the world,” an empathetic Gillick told 31-year-old office worker Glen Folan.

Walking the delicate tightrope of commiserating his interviewee while trying to encourage them to not get too down on themselves, Gillick tried to get Folan to focus on his achievements to date and the road ahead.

“I know it hurts but when you put it in perspective, it’s only Monday. You’ve four more days this week to get into work on time, and don’t forget that performance review in February, you knocked it out of the park” offered the former European indoor champion.

Out of breath from running for the bus and on the verge of tears Folan began to take on what Gillick was saying.

“Yeah, no, that’s fair, like, but you don’t think when you get the head down at 11pm you’d be waking up in a panic at 8.15am, I didn’t even have time to grab toast, and I’m only now realising I have one brown shoe and one black shoe on, but yeah I’ve achieved a lot” Folan said, showcasing the elite mentality that got him to where he is today.
