THE GAA community is celebrating the life of Kerryman Mick O’Dwyer, who won the All-Ireland as a manager and player so many times his hand marks remain permanently visible on the Sam Maguire trophy, after his passing aged 88.

“Micko held the Sam Maguire for longer than most Irish people have held a mug of tea ,” confirmed one GAA expert, outlining the astonishing achievements of a man who was on such familiar terms with the famous trophy, they began finishing each other’s sentences.

“Some say the scariest horror movie of the 70s was The Exorcist but I only had nightmares about Mick O’Dwyer,” confirmed Dublin football fans.

So synonymous was O’Dwyer with All-Ireland glory legend has you can bypass Sam Maguire’s iPhone Face ID by showing it a picture of the Waterville native.

However, not everyone is impressed by the fact the sporting legend’s hand prints are clearly embossed on the most coveted trophy in football like they were etched onto it by a highly skilled metal worker.

“It’s easy to win a Leinster title with a heavyweight like Laois and get Kildare to an All-Ireland final, anyone could have done that,” remarked one rare dissenting voice, clearly a Dubliner.
