FIFA Declares Belgium’s 4-1 Win Over USA Invalid: ‘Balogun Should Not Have Played’

BELGIUM fans were rejoicing after beating the United States 4-1 last night, marveling at a performance clearly driven and fired up by the fact FIFA suspended Folarin Balogun’s suspension in the days before the match.

However, the world football governing body has since sensationally declared the result invalid. The reason? FIFA now state Balogun should not have played after all.

“After extensive consultation, we have concluded that suspending his suspension was a mistake,” said FIFA President Gianni Infantino. “FIFA’s independent disciplinary committee reached that decision within seconds of the final whistle but was in no way influenced by the 26 phone calls placed to the committee by the Oval Office begging us to ‘stop the count’.”

According to Infantino, there is no other option but to replay the match. “That is extremely annoying, but rules are rules. Especially when the United States lost 4-1.”
