“The Rise In Synthetic Drugs & Opioids Is The Perfect Opportunity To Scapegoat Cannabis So That It Is Never Legalised”

IN our latest entry of the WWN Voices series, we give a platform to people we really shouldn’t. This week is the turn of Malcolm Michaels, a leading voice in the Irish Anti-Everything Alliance.

“If the recent overdoses in Irish prisons caused by the opioid nitazene has taught me anything, it is that there has never been a better time to cynically use it to cast doubt on any liberalisation of laws governing the use of cannabis.

Nitazene may have caused the overdoses, sure, but as we know cannabis can linger in the system for as many as 20 years, waiting to activate.

In my recent opinion piece titled ‘how long before Ireland’s loses its own Matthew Perry to cannabis’, it is clear I’m well versed in conflating all drugs, regardless of their individual properties, into one big amorphous blob of mega-drug.

Legalise cannabis, and the carnage that will be unleashed is clear for all to see. Well, clear to anyone who isn’t lost in a fog of marijuana smoke.

You can talk about de-criminalising, de-penalising, de-whatevering, I’m not here to debate anything on merit I’m just here to make a bad faith argument and I’m thankful to this publication for allowing me to do so.

And while the courts have in several recent instances rejected violent criminals’ fraudulent attempts to use ‘cannaboid psychosis’ as a reason for their cannabis-free crimes I will endeavour to pretend these instances actually strengthen the case to keep current legislation as it is.

Did you know there’s horrible synthetic cannboids like THC-P being sold online, often causing harm to its users. Now, you may say a legal, regulated market could ensure standards and safety to products but what about if I told you to ignore that? Then you’re opinion would align with my sensible one of just carrying on with the status quo.

What if I told one of the leading cannabis brands was called ‘Wyld’, if they are so careless and disrespectful of spelling and grammar just imagine what damage their THC (which stands for This High’s Chaos’) will do.”
