LOCAL MAN Kevin O’Brien continues to pride himself on the notion that he is a fiscally responsible individual, despite damning evidence to the contrary.

The 37-year-old Cork man made the claims as he criticised several friends for their ‘barely can afford’ mortgages, in addition to holidays paid for by the credit union and weddings put on credit cards.

“Technically I owned one DVD copy and one Blu-ray copy, in addition to an expanded DVD with bonus deleted scenes, Blu-ray is a completely different format, so I won’t accept that characterisation at all,” O’Brien said, defending a glut of DVD purchase in late 2007.

Always quick with a sarcastic quip about purchases made by friends, so sure is O’Brien of his status as a frugal and sensible spender he has become incensed by the inference that his Superbad purchases prove otherwise.

“The special edition unrated version which has a featurette on the ‘making of’ the seminal coming of age comedy classic is and was, a necessary purchase and a distinct separate product to the original DVD, plus I could afford it” explained O’Brien, who spent close to 70% of his weekly wage at the time from a part-time job on the DVDs.

“They are collectors items now, a solid investment. Imagine what they’d be worth now unlike like that brand new car you bought which loses thousands in value the second you drive it off the showroom floor,” insisted O’Brien, sweating now and hoping no one brings up his brief but intense foray into investing in special edition fidget spinners.
