YET ANOTHER celebrity fan has fallen victim to online scammers posing as their pop culture hero, with Boyzone man Keith Duffy speaking out for the first time about how his identity was used to swindle a poor unsuspecting fan out of €7.50, WWN can reveal.

“It’s desperate, I feel awful even though it’s nothing to do with me. That some bastard is exploiting the loyalty and passion of Duffans to extract €7.50 from them, it’s beyond evil is what it is,” explained an irate Duffy.

Joanne Kenny, a 44-year-old woman from Dublin was contacted online by a man claiming to be Keith Duffy, who said he was short €7.50 for a round of pitch and putt, but needed to practice so he could beat Ronan Keating in their annual pitch and putt tournament ‘Baby Can I Hole You’.

Duffy wouldn’t be drawn on the possible motives such a scammer may have had but did speculate on what the proceeds of the crime could yield for the criminal.

“I’m just thinking like, €7.50, y’know, it’s not nothing. You get yourself into Tescos ten, fifteen minutes before closing, make a b-line for that yellow sticker discounted stuff and Jesus, this criminal could be living like a king for what? Three weeks, a month? You dread to think about it,” said a forlorn Duffy.

The victim also spoke to WWN about the ordeal, singling out Duffy for praise.

“It’s a credit to what a lovely, lovely man Keith is that the scammer only asked for €7.50, if the scammer was scamming with another celebrity’s identity, like Leonardo Dicaprio, I could have been looking at €27.50 or worse, €28.25,” confirmed a shook Joanne.

Duffy was keen to stress to fans they should ignore such messages as he would never ask fans for money but if he encountered them in a restaurant or pub, the real Keith might ask if he could have one of their chicken wings or a few of their chips.
