MILLIONS OF tourists are believed to be waiting patiently at all airports, crossings and ferry terminals accessing Ireland, ready at any given moment to begin spending money in Ireland but cannot conceive of doing so until the Irish government restores the 9% VAT rate for the hospitality sector, WWN can confirm.

“It’s always been my dream to tour Ireland with my big fat bank account but I just can’t see myself doing it until I know that the 9% VAT rate, which will undoubtedly be passed onto me personally in the form of cheaper prices, is put back in place,” confirmed one US tourist, refusing to disembark his plane in Dublin airport.

All tourism affordability issues have been traced back to VAT rates in Ireland, with a potential price-saving bonanza in store for tourists currently holding off on that trip to Ireland and depressing locals with their sad faces as they wait at the border.

“All I want to do is visit Ireland and it’s expensive hotels, private transport, cafe, bars, restaurants, tours and amenities but until the VAT is reduced from 13% to 9%, I can’t do it. Presumably Ireland will instantly transform into a land of €5 pints, €50 a night hotels and €10 fry ups,” shared another would-be tourist, holding off at the border.

“Obviously people’s memories are short but they must remember the glory days of when everything was very, very affordable the last time VAT was at 9%,” confirmed a representative of the Price Gouger’s Association Of Ireland.
