Will Cancelling Build Of 500 Social Housing Units Result In More Homes? The Housing Minister Thinks So

WILL HALTING the construction of 500 units of social housing result in more social houses being built? That is certainly the belief of Minister for Housing James Browne, who saw the number of new home commencements in Ireland this year falling off a cliff and thought ‘what if we could raise that cliff a little higher’.

“Yeah we’ve seriously got to stop beginning our brain storming meetings by sniffing glue,” confirmed one government special advisor, who is being paid the equivalent of ‘one social housing unit’ in wages but unlike social housing, is something the government can’t do without.

Minister Browne was said to be so concerned with the cost of social housing units in Dublin, Kildare, Wicklow and Sligo he made the decision to halt the construction entirely, reopening the famously speedy procurement process.

“The idea is we stop building them. Wait. And then I think we, hang on, I have it written down here somewhere, oh yeah and then they’ll just magically cost a lot less to build next year or the year after… I dunno it made sense before the glue wore off,” added the special advisor.

Despite some consternation at the move, many have said it’s good to see the government have finally discovered something they won’t grossly overpay for but that it is a shame it’s related to the ‘reduce homelessness’ thing.

Elsewhere, an irate Sinn Féin housing spokesperson Eoin Ó Broin could not be contacted as he was spending the day getting a full body tattoo which was just a repeat of the phrase ‘State built social housing’ over and over again.
