Government Announce Strict Airbnb Rules They Announced Years Ago That They’ll Never Enforce
IN WHAT appears to be a reminder re-announcement after a rejig of regulations and rules, Minister for Enterprise, Tourism and Trade Peter Burke is to draft strict rules on short-term lets in large towns and cities, something the government did 7 years ago.
“The type monumental intellect it takes to suggest something we already implemented 7 years ago is rarely seen in this world, we’re lucky to be guided by such titans of hard graft and problem solving,” confirmed the Department of Wait, Weren’t We Doing This Already.
“And just as Eoghan Murphy announced seven years ago, this will immediately bring an end to holiday Airbnb rentals, returning many properties back to the rental market” confirmed a department spokesperson, before winking sarcastically in the direction of landlords.
Suffering from a rare form amnesiac workshy deja vu, the government is insistent that by announcing something out loud while not bothering to resource it in any meaningful way will somehow put a dent in the housing crisis in a way doing the exact thing nearly a decade ago didn’t.
“And hey, call us crazy but has anyone considered giving tax breaks and subsidies to developers to get some apartment built?” added Minister for Housing James Browne.
UPDATE: A department spokesperson confirmed the many loopholes which easily allow you to bypass these rules will be announced imminently.
