Chances Of Sinn Féin TD Accused Of Fraud Being Asked To Join Government As Independent Increase Dramatically
WHILE Sinn Féin TD Thomas Gould has been arrested for his part in an alleged €150,000 fraud, it’s not all bad news as that’s just the kind of independent TD they could do business with.
“They’ll even give you opposition speaking rights on top of the extra expenses, it’s the best of both world’s, really Thomas,” convicted criminal Michael Lowry TD explained to Gould.
At a time when Gould’s party Sinn Féin will be facing pressure to explain what they knew of their Cork TD’s alleged crimes, Gould now finds himself in a better position than ever.
“Any roads in Cork you want built, just give us a shout like a good man,” insisted the Taoiseach and Tánaiste, who suddenly discovered a newfound urge to invite Gould to join the government if he was to become an independent TD.
Many speculated that in the aftermath of his arrest Gould’s political career was over, but it has proven the exact opposite.
“Now, do I enjoy his defence of the IRA? No, but a man who is accused of fraud is just the sort of guy we can do business with. And sure if we cast aside every TD questioned by the gardaí sure Leo Varadkar and Bertie Ahern would’ve been turfed out instantly, and what sort of system would that have been?” explained a coalition spokesperson.
