Nobel Peace Prize Surely In The Bag For Netanyahu As Lebanon Ceasefire Declared
WITH news that Hezbollah and Israel have struck a ceasefire which largely adopts the framework of the 2006 peace deal, many independent observers and commentators are suggesting Benjamin Netanyahu shouldn’t go unrewarded for such a magnanimous approach to peace in the region.
“He could have killed a lot more people, you’ve got to hand it to him, and by ‘it’ I mean the Nobel Peace Prize, what a guy. What a visionary carrying of the candle of peace,” suggested one observer, Joe Biden, who will fight with Donald Trump over who will nominate Netanyahu for the prize first.
“If we don’t give out these prizes what incentives do leaders like Netanyahu have to stop bombing civilians? A moral compass? A conscience? C’mon, be serious. Shiny trophies are the only way,” posed one Nobel committee member who added that if they can give the prize to Obama why not Bibi.
Almost faltering at the last minute before signing the ceasefire, Netanyahu had to be reminded by aides that while the ceasefire means an end to the killing in Lebanon, he still has his daily death and destruction in Gaza to scratch that war crimes itch.
“The deal hit a blip when Bibi insisted that news of a ceasefire be delivered to Lebanese people via pager but we’ve got to give the guy praise where possible, I found it hard to give up cigarettes so imagine how tough it must be for him to give up murdering innocent civilians? Gandhi ain’t got shit on him,” confirmed the awarding committee of the peace prize.
