Fact Check: yes, this is a disturbing image which serves as a stirring visual metaphor of Fine Gael’s housing policy.

FACT CHECK: Yes, this is a genuine Irish Times article reporting on the delight Fianna Fáil TD felt having readmitted Bertie Ahern to the party in 2023. Bertie Ahern was found by the Mahon Tribunal to have failed to “truthfully” explain the source of money he received. As Finance Minister he did not have a bank account. In this role Ahern signed blank cheques for Charles Haughey, who then used these cheques to steal money from the taxpayer.

FACT CHECK: Yes, this is a genuine Irish Examiner article from 2022 detailing how a whistleblower alleges the Department of Health was unsure if an additional €514.5mn given to the HSE had been necessary, it did not ask the HSE to account for the spending and is not sure what the money was spent on. Staff in the department were told not to keep minutes of meetings on financial irregularities so journalists couldn’t request Freedom of Information requests.
