THE BUZZY kitchen-set comedy drama everyone is talking about picked up 23 Emmy nominations this week, but how accurate is ‘The Bear’? We asked Ireland’s chefs to find out:

“I haven’t watched it but if they have a scene in there where a chef is constantly asked ‘have you watched The Bear?’ then I’d say it’s pretty fucking accurate” – Jean Aubert, chef at Le Food, Dublin.

“Carmy? That’s the sort of obsessive drive for perfection I recognise in myself” Zhang Wei, McDonalds chef.

“It’s not realistic at all boi, for one I work in Tramore” – chef Tom Palley on The Bear’s inaccurate Chicago setting.

“That whole calling everyone Cousin thing is bang on, but we use ‘ye cunt ye’ instead” – Graham, sous chef.

“Where’s The Bear’s ‘Lucinda O’Sullivan’s great places to eat 2017’ plaque? Small details like this make me question the realism” – Fionnuala, lady chef.

“There’s zero scenes involving influencers thinking they can get a meal for free so I’d have to say it’s only 8 out of 10 in the realism stakes” – Ian, chef.

“It skimps on the stress and toxic workplace aspects, I’d like to see more of that, I feel they don’t dwell on that enough. I’m always so relaxed watching it. Where’s the tension?” – Brian, chef.

“Not one spitting in food scene, disappointing” – Jenny, waitress.

“Watching all the scenes of them cleaning the kitchen, that’s when I knew the writers had never been in a proper restaurant” – Frank, kitchen porter.

“Changing the menu every day? Fuck off outta that. We’ve the same menu since 2013 and we’ve still some meat from then too” – Gary, chef.
