“Some Signs Were Missed”: Tusla Says Of 300 Adult Asylum Seekers Claiming To Be Children
NEWS that from 2022-2025, 0.1843% of the total number of those seeking temporary protection or international protection were found to have falsely claimed to be under 18 years of age has led to a mea culpa issued by Tusla and the International Protection Office.
“Some signs were missed, it’s now clear no 3-year-old has a beard that bushy,” confirmed a spokesperson for Tusla, whose time frame for completing eligibility assessments of such applications has significantly reduced recently from around 57 days to 15 days.
“I knew something was up when one of them started talking about being imprisoned during the first Gulf War,” added one screening specialist.
During a four period between 2022-2025 some 293 people were found to be over the age of 18 while claiming to be an unaccompanied child. this has led to calls, which will be ignored, for more people to be employed in the asylum vetting process and given resources while providing Tusla with legal clarity in the matter of processing those they suspect of being of adult age.
“Excuse me, if you don’t mind, I’m actually quite busy trying to figure out why anti-immigrant voters won’t love me,” offered Justice Minister Jim O’Callaghan as racists remain stubbornly unimpressed by all the efforts and progress made by O’Callaghan in burying legitimate applicants in red tape and bureaucracy.
