DUBLIN city awoke today to a welcome new O’Connell Street memorial depicting an unknown Irish football fan mocking Portuguese striker Ranaldo, which will now replace the Spire.

The 50-foot monument was commissioned late last night shortly after a World Cup playoff which saw Ireland beat Portugal 2–0, in a game that included the number 7 being sent off, but not before attempting to taunt Irish supporters with weeping gestures, only to be immediately owned with the very same gesture thrown back at him.

“This is our generation’s Italia 90,” one young fan told WWN while leaving the stadium. “If this is all we win, then so be it. We won in our hearts.”

Following the dramatic victory, composed and level-headed fans immediately installed Ireland as favourites to win the 2026 World Cup next year.

“It’s coming home,” another fan predicted. “I’ve already booked the week off for after we win. Olé, olé, olé, olé…”

Irish football clubs have since reported a huge rise in the number of English teens looking to join training camps here, with FIFA also expressing interest in basing their main headquarters in Dublin.

Meanwhile, Irish manager Heimir Hallgrímsson released an official statement this morning on the win, stating simply: “Yeah, great.”
