“IT’S like they don’t even realise my car is halfway onto the road and urgently needs to be let out to avoid an accident,” Malachy Ryan told WWN during a live call from a busy Waterford junction this afternoon.

Ryan, who had been inching the nose of his €100,000 car into traffic for the past 87 seconds, urged fellow motorists to ‘show a bit of sense’ as he was due to tee off at Faithlegg Golf Club in 24 minutes.

“I’m even doing the aggressive hand gestures out the window, the universal ‘what’s your problem, pal?’, and all I’m getting are beeps from drivers swerving into the oncoming lane to avoid me,” the 63-year-old retired pharmacist said, describing the ‘horrific’ scene.

With no sign of cooperation from the public, Ryan briefly considered ‘just pulling out and ending this whole nightmare’ before being advised to reverse back behind the white line, as per basic road rules, and try again.

“Oh… right, well that worked. Weird,” Ryan admitted, moments before accelerating away without acknowledging the driver who had stopped to let him out and abruptly hanging up the phone, muttering something about ‘ignorant bastards’.
