“We’re Backing Israeli Business!”: Irish Government Announce Bill Protecting Billions In Israeli Imports From Occupied Palestinian Territories
“LET NO ONE be in doubt, when it comes to ethnic cleansing, apartheid, genocide, we will ensure it is still very easy to do business with the vast, vast majority of firms operating out of the illegally occupied West Bank,” confirmed Tánaiste Simon Harris, who is to present a version of the Occupied Territories Bill before cabinet which exempts billions in trade with companies based in the territories from any sanction.
The bill represents a huge boost for trade with a Middle East country like Israel and could not have come at a better time as Ireland faces an uncertain economic relationship with the US due to president Trump’s tariff plans.
“Ireland is open for business, do you have IT services? We’re open, come on in. Do you have cyber security services? Consultancy services? Defence expertise? We’re first in the queue, the list is nearly endless,” confirmed a Department of Trade representative.
If the watered down Occupied Territories Bill was to become law, it would be illegal to import physical products such as dates, oranges, olives and some timber from occupied territories, which totaled just over €600,000 of business between 2020 and 2024.
“Just because you’re starving and killing people, doesn’t mean we have to starve or kill any trade. It’s just business, what harm could it be doing?” added the representative.
“Jesus, some people are never happy, you water down legislation to the point it loses its power completely and people still complain? And I suppose they’ll complain when we start a campaign for Simon to get a Nobel Peace Prize begins too?” offered a government spokesperson.
We’ve been hacked by North Korea, made it into Trump’s campaign emails, threatened with legal action by Ireland’s richest man, angered Scientology and received 6,000 complaints from the God squad after a sketch of ours aired on RTÉ.
