Is Installing A Stainless Steel Pub Urinal In Your Home This Season’s Must Have Interior Design Trend?
COTTAGECORE has come and gone in the interior design trend game, and in it’s place fast emerging as the next defining trend is undoubtedly ‘Pubcore’.
Renovating costs can spiral and even with the smallest of additions, things can get out of hand but a home is never truly a home until you put your own personal stamp on it, something Waterford man Chris Connelly did earlier this year.
“There’s something primal about wall mounted trough urinals that speaks to our indigenous Irish pub culture. This one, we rescued and refurbished from a pub in Tipp that closed, the urinal had been in there for 40 years. Imagine, a piece of history like that, thousands of individual slashes by God knows how many, I feel like I’m connected to my ancestors” Connelly said of the vintage stainless steel urinal that now resides in his downstairs bathroom.
Bespoke urinal cakes, sustainably sourced from a local urinal cake baker Orwin Stelton Hopkins really provide the trough with a balancing effect, the wild orange and bergamot scent an olfactory delight.
“The shimmering reflective tones from the stainless steel urinal coupled with the calming trickling of the piss down the drain becomes almost meditative. My wife Joanne agrees, I’ve won her over to the point she’s weeing in it too when she has to recentre herself,” added Connelly.
“All in all the refurb was a bit more than the original budget, but the plus side to it costing €15k is we can tell people it cost €15k while rolling our eyes and complaining about tradespeople, which as a middle class person with no idea how to project manage, is basically my religion at this point,” concluded the Ardmore native.
Connelly is one of many people using home interiors to honour Irish culture with the effect that when walking into his home and using his bathroom you can almost hear the unrepeatable drunken invective masquerading as banter, rising like steam off the piss.
