“We Have A Plan To Combat Trump’s Tariff Plans” Says Government In Cruel April Fools’ Prank
LABELED a cruel April Fools’ day prank, the Irish government’s juvenile release of statements claiming they are prepared for whatever tariffs Donald Trump throws their way has not gone down well with the public.
“Not everyone checks the date, there’s many people walking around now today in Ireland who thinks this was a serious statement from the government, it’s not on” confirmed one member of the public.
Similar to previous ill-thought out April Fool’s day pranks about having solutions to homelessness and meeting housing targets, the government has irked many with this immature display.
“‘We have a plan’? At least come up with something that is plausible and could trick me for a second,” said another reader of the news, who immediately sighed disdainfully when they first saw the prank headlines.
“Donald Trump may have his ‘Liberation Day’ tomorrow when tariffs are announced but we in Ireland will have ‘Elation Day’ as the people here celebrate having a government that is ready and prepared for anything,” said Taoiseach Micheál Martin, failing to resist bursting out in laughter.
Elsewhere, not content with just the one April Fool’s prank, the government has confirmed it will be proposing a mocking motion of confidence in the Ceann Comhairle Verona Murphy.
