IN AN INCREDIBLE day for the Irish acting fraternity, two Irish actors are set to take on the roles of a lifetime when they portray two members of the iconic band Union J in a series of biopics.

“It’s a dream come true,” Barry Keoghan said at the glitzy launch announcing the commencement of filming the incredible true story behind series 9 X factor veterans and semi-finalists Union J.

“We don’t take this honour lightly, it’s a privilege we’re humbled by and we will be rehearsing like our lives depended on it,” added Paul Mescal, who says the four films, each told from a specific perspective of each member will also touch upon their origins when the band went by the name Triple J.

“When Martin Scorsese, Christopher Nolan, Denis Villeneuve and Jane Campion said they wanted to co-direct, I signed up right away,” Keoghan confirmed.

Keoghan and Mescal said their lesser reported roles in upcoming biopics about The Beatles are part of a ‘one for them, one for us’ strategy which sees they partake in a very commercial and soulless popcorn fodder so they can then afford to do passion projects like ‘Union J: The Movie In 3D’.

“That Beatles one is a bit flashy mainstream, dumbed down for the masses shit, but we can get real and explore the vast complexities of the human soul and creativity and how that genius can weigh people down with the Union J film,” the pair said.

Actors circling the role of the movies’ villain include Javier Bardem, Christopher Waltz and Ralph Fiennes.

“It would be my most challenging role yet,” said Fiennes on the possibility of stepping into Louis Walsh’s shoes.
