“It’s Nice To Get A Job Fully On Merit” Jackie Healy-Rae On Being Appointed Ministerial Advisor By His Dad
IN A COMPETITIVE jobs market it can be soul crushing to be beaten to a position by someone with connections who is not as qualified for the position, which is why Jackie Healy-Rae is so delighted to be hired as his father’s ministerial advisor on merit alone, WWN can exclusively reveal.
“You wouldn’t believe the relief on my face when I showed up on my first day and found out who my new boss was, it’s such a small world,” confirmed Jackie.
The new position advising the Agriculture, Food, Fisheries and the Marine comes with a top salary of €104,000 and saw candidates whittled down through a grueling set of competency based questions including ‘are you my son?’.
“I submitted my CV blind for the position. My name wasn’t on the application or anything when I shook my dad’s hand,” added Jackie, giving some credence to the feeling that some days the stars just align perfectly for someone.
Another advantage of being employed by his father as a political advisor is that Jackie didn’t need to disclose his conviction for assault as his father ‘knew all about it’.
While the particulars of his role have not been defined in public, Jackie may be called upon to remind his father when he’s in the middle of a speech about the decimation of the tourism industry that he is raking in money being paid by the state to house refugees.
