Government Hoping Waterford Parents Campaigning For Special School Places Don’t Get Much Coverage

THE GOVERNMENT is banking on a group of Waterford parents seeking special school places for their children receiving little to no media coverage so the government doesn’t have to act to solve the issue, WWN understands.

“No, no, listen fair play to them making the trip up they must be delighted to see the Spire and that, but you’d be hoping it’d only be the local Waterford papers covering the protest, wouldn’t want to feel any actual pressure on ourselves to act,” said a government source.

Addressing the parents directly, who were in the public gallery of the Dáil, Taoiseach Micheál Martin committed to securing 22 schoolchildren with additional needs a place in St. John’s Special School, Dungarvan for September 2025, a commitment many view as the surest sign nothing will be done unless politicians are subjected to consistent public pressure.

“Sure, you’re angry reading about how these parents having to constantly beg the government for something their child is entitled to but thankfully the Irish public always gets distracted by something else eventually,” added the source, hoping no one signs the petition HERE.

It is believed the government would also prefer people wouldn’t send emails the relevant ministers at [email protected] and [email protected] to keep up the pressure.

“If there’s another greenway opening in Dungarvan, give us a shout and we’ll be there in a flash to pose on a bicycle but for the real stuff like parents having to fight tooth and nail for their children with autism to have a place in class, please don’t give that too much publicity,” begged one government source.
