WITH a content smile beaming on his face from ear-to-ear, local man Sean Hennessy was delighted to add a brand new Connacht rugby jersey to his wardrobe at the weekend, where it hangs beside a Leicester City jersey that he bought a few weeks ago.

Hennessy, 28, has been a fan of Connacht rugby since late in their 2016 Guinness Pro-12 campaign, which they secured with a victory against Leinster at the weekend.

Connacht broke a decades-long drought with a comprehensive win over Leinster at Murrayfield stadium in Edinburgh at the weekend, picking up thousands of life-long supporters at the same time.

Wishing to show his connection to a team that win things, Dungarvan native Hennessy went straight to Lifestyle sports the next day and picked up one of the last of their stock of Connacht jerseys, which had mostly been in storage up until last week.

“I’m going to wear this jersey so that people know that I’m a Connacht fan, and not a fan of a team that didn’t just win a trophy,” said Hennessy, setting fire to his old Leinster jersey.

“I’ll mix and match with my Leicester City jersey, as they are a team that I also enjoyed latching on to when they looked certain to clinch the Premier League. Come on, sport!”
