M50 To Get Upper Deck

CONSTRUCTION of a second storey, which will sit directly on top of the existing M50, is set to begin in November this year at a cost of four billionish euros, WWN has learned.

Mirroring the already congested motorway underneath, the four lane double decker is expected to be completed in 2030ish.

“These current estimates are a useful starting point for discussions about the actual cost and time it will take to build M50 II,” said a government spokesperson. “We’re very optimistic about being optimistic about this project.”

The new level will cost twice the amount of the ground floor motorway, with tolls expected to cost €9 each way for cars.

When pointed out that the traffic still has to use the same junctions and will do very little to ease city congestion, the spokesperson was undeterred.

“We’re not really too concerned about that kind of pessimistic attitude,” they said. “It’s a future problem.”

Members of the public who commute on the M50 daily were cautiously optimistic.

“I suppose it will be nice to be able to get to city traffic jams quicker,” one commuter said. “And if the top floor gets congested too then we can always just throw ourselves off it.”
