Equality Group Name Akon A ‘Pioneer’ For Admirably Trying & Failing To Describe Girl Without Being Disrespectful 

THE SOCIETY For The Enhancement In How Woman Are Treated (SFTEIHWAT) have today bestowed their highest honour on Senegalese-American rapper and singer Akon, for his positive impact on the treatment of women, specifically for his 2009 collaboration with David Guetta entitled ‘Sexy Bitch’.

“We sometimes ask for perfection in our feminist icons, but perhaps sometimes we simply must say ‘decent try, better luck next time’,” said chair of SFTEIHWAT, Emily Murnow.

With the advantage of distance, the legacy of the long can be fully appreciated with many likening it to or even suggesting it outdoes the impact of people like Emmeline Pankhurst.

“When you sang ‘I’m tryna find the words to describe this girl without being disrespectful. Damn girl, damn, you a sexy bitch’, you spoke for all well meaning but ultimately equality-illiterate male dullards out there,” Murnow continued in her speech as the award recipient, Akon became visibly emotional.

Acknowledging 2009 was a ‘long time ago’ when it took real bravery to attempt to redress the way women were talked about in pop culture, lyrics such as ‘Nothing you can compare to your neighborhood ho, I’m tryna find the words to describe this girl without being disrespectful, the way that booty movin’, I can’t take no more’ were a clear attempt, epically failed, to write a song through a feminist lens, Murnow said.

In accepting the award, a teary-eyed Akon admitted it was a real challenge to craft such progressive, open hearted, earnest and empathetic lyrics and that he could not take all the credit as his four male co-writers also deserved praise.

“It took us, 12 hour shifts of writing, over 4 months to find that delicate balance but I’m glad the song is being celebrated for its legacy,” shared Akon.

“And if I can be as bold as to say Emily, they say she low-down. It’s just a rumor and I don’t believe ’em”.
