‘Hannah Montana’ Criticised For Giving Generation Of Children Unrealistic Expectation They Could Live Double Life With Help Of Blonde Wig
THE REAPPRAISAL of the cultural impact and legacy of art has been a practice in place long before even Shakespeare had actors treading the boards.
As a once faithful audience of a piece of art matures, so do their interpretations of the meaning, context and impact of that art. This universal truth is now observable in those people rared on the adventures of Hannah Montana.
Once an aspirational tale of achieving stardom and preserving anonymity, ardent fans are now questioning the lasting trauma exacted by the Disney Channel teen sitcom.
“I was sold a lie,” explained 30-year-old Montana fan Emily Healy. “I tried to create this dual life, this other self, but just putting on a blonde wig wasn’t enough to fool my husband into thinking it wasn’t me having an affair with his brother”.
“I really thought the jury would buy the fact the CCTV footage of a person in a blonde wig robbing the bank wasn’t me,” explained 29-year-old inmate Conor Bevin. “Sure it was my choice to rob it but some of the blame for getting caught has to be with a show that credibly claimed Miley Cyrus was unrecognisable after sticking on a wig”.
“And another thing, Selena Gomez has never appeared in a crossover episode in my life, ever. There isn’t enough therapy in the world to help me with the trauma experienced from all these unrealistic expectations HM set up,” offered another Montana superfan, Fiona Keenan.
However, not everyone feels the show let them down and set them up for failure.
“I dunno, I think I’ve nailed the double life thing, work Ciara is stern, joyless and professional. Downtime Ciara drinks enough on weekends to incapacitate a horse, gets into fights and argues with taxi drivers. These two personas live in harmony, undiscovered,” explained Ciara Plunkett.
