A MAN with a unique insight into the inner struggles and pressures newly minted US Masters champion Rory McIlroy would have undergone posted to social media late last night, sharing in the golfer’s triumph.

“Get in there Rors, never in doubt!” declared local man Geoff Lyons, delighted for close pal McIlroy who once briefly stopped walking while at the Irish Open in 2012 long enough to allow Lyons take a photo.

However, Lyons’ use of the selfie accompanied by the text ‘Rors’ to describe McIlroy left many to conclude the Waterford native was indeed a close friend of the golfer, familiar enough to shorten his first name.

“GOAT behaviour! He must have recalled my advice on the 8 iron, knew it would pay off” added Lyons seriously, displaying no trace of intentional sarcasm or wit, further confusing those who know the Tramore man to be a uniquely challenged golfer.

“We didn’t think it would take this long did we? But it was well worth the wait buddy,” continued Lyons, seemingly speaking for himself and McIlroy and now posting the picture into various group chats after his initial social media posting received little interaction.
