Jack Chambers Adds ‘Look Up What A Tariff Is’ To Work Calendar
AFTER HEARING the word come up more and more in the corridors of Leinster House and the Department of Finance, junior minister Jack Chambers has taken the time to add a reminder in his Google calendar to find out what the word ‘tariff’ means, WWN can exclusively reveal.
“Yeah, yeah Tariff was mad, you go there too?” Chambers said in response to department colleagues a few weeks ago, as he tried to disguise the fact he wasn’t sure what they were discussing but something in the back of his mind told him Tariff was an island in the Mediterranean.
“Hmm maybe it’s got something to do with either public expenditure, infrastructure, public services, reform and digitalisation,” the Minister for Public Expenditure, Infrastructure, Public Services, Reform and Digitalisation said to himself as it dawned on him the tense meeting he was now in with department heads probably wasn’t called to discuss post leaving cert holidays on Spanish islands.
Subtly pocketing the old holiday photos he got printed in Boots, Chambers set about nodding seriously and confirming he would ‘circle back when I have the full information’ to any and all requests from cabinet colleagues on the potential impacts of tariffs on Irish industries.
Sealing off an hour of time three weeks from now, Chambers set up a calendar reminder, which should give him enough time to study up of the intriguing sounding word long before it ever gains relevancy to Irish businesses and consumers.
“Wow, productive day,” added Chambers deleting old calendar reminders including one about sharing the fact he knew housing targets wouldn’t be met before last year’s election.
