BEADS of sweat engulfing his forehead, Tánaiste and Fine Gael leader Simon Harris woke bolt upright in the bed of a house he owns, failing to catch his breath after experiencing the nightmare to end all nightmares.

Fresh from proclaiming ‘fresh thinking’ is needed if Ireland is to reach its housing targets which are well below what is required.

“Christ it felt terrifyingly real. The horror… a State run housing department, responsible for directly building one solitary public housing unit,” said a shook Harris, shivering at the thought.

Harris, who believes a radical rethink is required of how government frames changing zero aspect of policy to continue enriching investment funds and developers at the expense of first time buyers, said his nightmare was sign sent by a higher power.

“I’ll tell you, being visited by the ghost of social housing is no fun at all. But it made something clearer for me, directly building social housing in order to stop local councils, investment funds and HAP hungry landlords from competing for the same housing stock of first time buyers would be madness,” said Harris before waking from the nightmare within a nightmare that saw him turned into a key by Eoin Ó Broin and put into a keyhole to open a State built house on State owned land for an unmarried single mother.
