Whale Carcass In Dungarvan Going For €300 A Night On Airbnb
A QUICK THINKING Dungarvan entrepreneur has acted swiftly in setting up Munster’s newest and most unique Airbnb experience by converting a whale carcass into a €300-per night stay.
With residents being urged to steer clear of the beached dead whale measuring 20ft in length as the cause of the mammal’s death is unknown, businessman and landlord Tommy Mackey saw his chance.
“I guess I have a knack for these things, I did it with my cabin in the back garden, my granny’s house, and then there was those 15 apartments that were meant to be permanent homes for local people, I’m always repurposing things people can live in into tourist accommodation, it’s my passion,” explained Mackey.
Despite the seemingly steep price, the whale is now booked out for the entire summer as people desire an ‘experience’ stay which can include a converted tree house, a bus and the blood soaked walls of a padded cell in a mental hospital.
“Converting it wasn’t too hard. After threatening some of the refugee lads the State pays me to put up in a B&B with a visit from the guards, I got the whale cleaned and kitted out with two beds, a kitchenette and a shower in no time. Trojan work they done,” offered Mackey.
The news of the new Airbnb let has caused some controversy with others saying Mackey should have left well alone.
“There’s people in Dungarvan crying out for that whale to be converted into a sauna,” explained one notions drenched resident, originally from Dublin.
