COALITION government ministers congratulated the Irish women’s homeless football team on their world cup win yesterday, quickly pointing out that they wouldn’t be where they are today without their hard work over the years.

Greeting the victorious Irish women’s homeless football team at Dublin Airport, Housing ministers old and new welcomed the team as they exited arrivals.

“You’re welcome, ladies,” one sitting minister shouted, waving frantically in the hopes of some credit being given where credit is due.

“The fact we even have a football world cup dedicated to homeless people across the world is a real sign things are on the up,” said a government spokesperson.

Ironically, plans are advancing for Ireland’s bid to host the next Homeless World Cup in 2028.

“Excuse the pun but playing at home in four years will be great. We’re really working hard at creating as many potential players as possible for the next homeless world cup – we should have at least 20 thousand men and women to choose from by then,” adding, “hell, we’ve enough homeless to start up a yearly league at this stage.
