REFUSING to retract his false claim that solicitors are deliberately and specifically targeting rape victims and their trials as part of their withdrawal from all criminal defence work, the Minister for Justice is hoping the public doesn’t mind him cynically using rape victims as an emotive tools to sway public opinion in his dispute with the legal profession.

“I definitely see the value in exploiting rape victims like this for political gain because when you factor in the Irish public’s tendency to stop reading past the headline, a lot of people will just accept what he says as fact. Bravo I say, really good emotional manipulation at the expense of rape victims for your own political capital,” confirmed one turning the tide of public opinion expert.

“Tone deaf, insensitive, antagonistic and deeply insulting. Who does the Minister think he is? A Belfast comic,” added another expert, who thinks the minister’s grossly offensive remarks will pay off as it gains a fraction of attention devoted to other news items.

Minister O’Callaghan remains steadfast in his desire to improve systemic delays in the courts system which currently sees Irish cases take three times as long to conclude as the European average, with the minister committed to ignoring significant delays caused by the gardaí, the DPP and State forensic laboratories.

Elsewhere, some have criticised the minister for becoming distracted by the row over the flat-fee court model and losing focus as it’s been 60 seconds since he’s tried to impress racist voters with more scapegoating of immigrants.
