Chaos As 14,500 Leaving Cert Points Stolen From Briefcase Left Unattended In Reception Of Dept. Of Education

EXCLUSIVE: ON THE EVE of the Leaving Cert results being made public and as thousands of student await their results, panic engulfs the Department of Education, WWN can reveal.

At 3pm this afternoon, CCTV from the DoE buildings shows a hooded figure ambling into the lobby of the reception area and seeing an unattended briefcase they strike, stealing the briefcase and making a clean getaway.

And it is this briefcase that has department official scrambling, for it contained 14,000 unmarked Leaving Cert points.

“We’re all very upset by this. And it calls into question the integrity of the whole Leaving Cert results. That someone could be out there walking around with that many points, and could sell them to God knows who. I won’t sleep a wink tonight,” shared Dermot Michan, school principal at St Post Malone of the Sacred Ink secondary school.

Due to the IRA raiding a train containing the entire points haul of the 1983 Inter Cert, exam points have been transported under armed guard ever since. It is unclear why there was a breakdown in protocol which led to the briefcase being left unattended in the reception area.

“Questions need answering. My little girl is due her results tomorrow. Will she get her points? Have they been stolen? Are there any more stolen points? Could parents of a classmate of hers buy some of these points for their daughter, and then she waltz into medicine in Trinity?” one concerned parent remarked.

Online postings seen by WWN show a cache of Leaving Cert points available for purchase for a low five-figure sum. WWN has not been able to ascertain the veracity of the points but the panic is clear among authorities.

“Return the points now and we’ll say nothing of it. C’mon now, there’s a good lad,” said a Garda spokesperson, standing beside a depressingly bare evidence table in front of the media just minutes ago.
