WITH next to no one declaring their candidacy and many of those waiting in the wings looking uniquely unqualified for the role of Irish president, state officials are examining the constitution for an unprecedented scenario.
In the event of all declared candidates proving so uninspiring it leads to zero votes being cast by an uninspired public, wouldn’t it just make sense to give the presidency to one random member of the public, via a lotto, and let them have a day in charge?
