Public Can’t Wait To See How Record €108bn Tax Take Squandered

THE IRISH public has responded to news of the State’s record tax take of €108bn with a renewed resignation to the fact none of it will be put to use in a way that improves daily life for citizens.

“At least the HSE will get some more money they can’t account for how they actually spent it and somehow reduce the number of frontline healthcare workers and expand waiting lists,” confirmed one local person with previous knowledge of Ireland.

The considerable resignation felt by the nation gave way to a degree of excitement as many realised that while the squandering of once-in-a-century boom in tax receipts is guaranteed, it remains a source of intrigue as to the who, why and how out of it all.

“As much as I admire the ballooning children’s hospital budget, I think we should be more ambitious about wasting money, there’s no reason the Metro can’t cost €60bn AND never break ground,” suggested another Irish person.

“And why stop at just one Metro. Cork would kill for a little slice of their own contemptible squandering of money that would make the Cork Convention Centre debacle look like losing a €2 scratch card down an open manhole,” added another member of the public.

A small band of doubters expressed confidence in the fact that they are sure Jack Chambers won’t screw this up.

Meanwhile, developers have begun queuing for the as yet unannounced extra subsidies and incentives they will guzzle down their neck like a pelican swallowing its prey, all in exchange for being paid to build soon-to-be-condemned apartments on public land provided to them for free.
