Poor Struggling Landlord Who Hasn’t Done A Tap To House In 20 Years Ups Rent Again
A MAN who was left an accidental landlord after he made the conscious decision to buy his siblings out of a family home because he thought he could make money on renting it to students has once again raised the rent on tenants despite the house last receiving a lick of paint when Concorde made its maiden flight.
“You might recognise me from such landlord PR campaigns such as ‘there’s an exodus of landlords’ and ‘maybe we’d stay if we got another tax break from the government’,” explained Tony Orton, who said that by raising rent he was merely doing his bit to help bring the rent up on new tenancies in Ireland by 8.1%.
“You say raising the rent way above the Rent Pressure Zone rules is breaking the law but who’s going to stop me, the RTB?” Added Orton, laughing maniacally in response to an RTB report that revealed rent on 26,000 homes were raised above the legal limit.
Orton called on his fellow landlords to do their bit for the cause by donating to their local politicians ahead of the next election so landlords remain largely unaccountable for such things and the RTB isn’t given real power and resources.
“Why not put up the rent well above the amount I’m allowed, sure if something breaks amn’t I the one expected to fix it?” explained Orton, as if the news of a landlord’s responsibilities had been a sneaky secret kept from him by others.
