A MAYO supporter who rushed the pitch in the dying moments of this years All-Ireland semi-final replay has been nominated for this years GAA All-Stars, released this morning.

Mick Barrett shot to infamy when it took 6 members of pitch security to sedate him during Mayo’s losing effort against eventual All-Ireland champions Kerry, when he ran onto the Gaelic Grounds in Limerick to kick the bollocks out of referee Cormac O’Reilly.

The Castlebar native was said to be delighted this morning when the GAA released their picks for this years All-Stars, including him in a special “Pitch Invader of Merit” category.

“In as much as it was an honour to represent my county on the pitch, I have to say it’s really something special to be nominated for an All-Star” said Barrett, who received a sponsorship deal from Red Mills cattle feed following his stunning debut.

“To be considered one of the best lads to invade a GAA pitch in the last 12 months is something I’ve only ever dreamed of, and with a bit of luck I’ll take the award home on the night”.

Barrett faces stiff competition in the category from Paddy O’Sullivan, who ran onto the pitch during a club match between Lixnaw against Kilmoyley and attempted to lamp the shite out of Paul Galvin with a hurley.

The GAA All-Star Awards ceremony takes place in the Convention Centre in Dublin on Friday 24 October.
