Deadline Day Round-up: John Leaves Wife & 2 Kids For Fresh Start With Gráinne
THE 39-YEAR-OLD signs on a rolling contract with Gráinne Saulter, the much fancied and promising 28-year-old marketing manager.
“I see this as a step up,” said John Kennehan, as he took Instagram photos with Gráinne to confirm the big move.
It has been a difficult few years for the wantaway John at his now previous team, where he felt his potential wasn’t being utilised, feeling hamstrung by fatherhood.
“I think I can really hit the ground running here with Gráinne, we work together so there’s a familiarity there. Obviously she’s played with me in the bedroom before so I’m just hoping to bring my best game and keep the fitness up,” added the delighted Waterford man.
It was touch and go last night on whether a deal could be struck but things accelerated around 10.35pm last night when John’s wife Kate discovered a series of text messages with Gráinne discussing a possible move.
Despite signing a lifelong contract in 2012 with Kate, John goes on a free.
“Obviously I didn’t think I’d make the move this quick, but with my clothes being thrown all over the driveway and the neighbours coming out for a good gawk, I thought this was the perfect opportunity,” a beaming John said.
“People question where he’ll slot in, and I get that I’m out with friends every weekend, love festivals, lots of single male friends my own age waiting in the wings, but John’s got a great touch for a big man and he brings a lot of experience,” shared Gráinne, who admitted the transfer deal made sense from a financial perspective as she has now halved her rent.
However, many details of the transfer remain under wraps, with some speculating John may seek to trigger a ‘take me back clause’ with Kate, which could come into effect in January when the window opens again.
