MAKING ITS way through a backlog of cases the State’s ethnics watchdog SIPO (Standard in Public Office), has responded to TD Micheál Blaney Sr, who filed a complaint over the assassination of Michael Collins in days after his killing in August 1922.

Seeking answers at the time over possible connections some sittings TDs may have had to the assassination, Blaney Sr contacted SIPO, asking for appropriate investigations to be commenced and action to be taken, and today Blaney Sr will be delighting in the news he has gotten a response.

“We can confirm that we received correspondence in the weeks after the reported incident upon the recommencement of the 3rd Dáil in September 1922 and would like the complainant to know we have acknowledged the receipt of their account of information pertaining to the incident and will, when resources allow, commence a further examination of the facts to factually gather the factuality of the facts to garner if the facts need more facting before a final decision and judgement is made,” read the email sent to the now deceased-by-91-years TD.

On a roll, SIPO have also responded to TD Paul Murphy’s complaint, lodged in April 2023 on foot of reporting by The Ditch, relating to Fianna Fáil minister Niall Collins time as a councillor in Limerick when he voted in favour of the sale of land which was then purchased by his wife Eimear O’Connor.

“We get a bit of stick now and again for how slow we process complaints but I’d like to see them have a go at us over this, you’d want to see Margaret in here, she’s like a dog with a bone, she’s after reading two sentences in one week, she’s signed on for exhaustion for six month off the back of that mind you but when she’s back? Oh there’ll be no stopping us,” confirmed one SIPO insider.
