Italy Win Gold In The Downhill Pasta Making Event
JUST IN – It’s another gold medal for Italy in the 2026 Milano Cortino Winter Olympics.
In a result many experts saw coming, event favourite 70-year-old Italian Nonna Domenica Tardelli romped home in the downhill pasta making event.
Victorious in a record time, Tardelli finished the challenging snow-topped course in a time of 3 minutes and 55 seconds, producing 13 kilos of spaghetti, linguini and ravioli and achieving a top speed of 95 miles per hour.
“I followed my nonna’s recipe and obviously the improvements the team made on a more aerodynamic strainer helped with drag going into corner two,” explained Tardelli in a post-race interview.
It is Tardelli’s first ever gold and at 70 she is the youngest competitor to win the event. Tardelli said she would celebrate the win by fussing over her 27 grandchildren and criticising her granddaughter for putting on weight.
The downhill pasta event was always one the Italian team were expected to win but there was disappointment elsewhere as Tomasso Di Marco had to settle for bronze in the ice sculpting event where his 12ft tall ‘Aggressive Italian hand gesture’ lost out to Swiss athlete Heydrich Huber for his ‘ornate swan in mid flight’ design.
