Flooding Upgraded To ‘Serious’ After Affecting Dublin
THE NATION HAS been urged to stop everything and take heed after flooding, typically associated with rural areas, began affecting the capital city today.
Long dismissed by Dubliners as something rural folk simply had to accept as part of country living, Ireland’s largest city woke this morning to flooded roads and power outages, instantly elevating the storm to a matter of national importance.
“This is the worst storm in 5,000 years,” one Dublin man said, while staring in disbelief at rivers of water flowing down Dublin streets, and wondering how it managed to breach what many consider the world’s most impenetrable defensive structure, the M50.
Commuters have been warned to expect significant delays to and from the capital, in addition to the standard two to three hours they have grown accustomed to over the past few years.
Meanwhile, e-scooter users have been encouraged to drive directly through floodwaters, with experts confirming the water is “actually good for the battery” and helps keep it cool.
Elsewhere across the country, politicians have asked communities affected not to get too excited as flooding will continue to be treated as something they will pretend to fix at a later date before forgetting to fund it adequately.
