Dublin Commuters Didn’t Even Notice Taxi ‘Go-Slow’ Protest
TAXI drivers in Dublin staged a “go-slow” protest in the city centre yesterday evening over Uber’s new fixed-rate charges, but unfortunately no one noticed, as the traffic was already completely gridlocked.
“Oh right. So they tried slowing down the already slow traffic. Fair enough,” one commuter remarked, not even remotely fazed.
The protest began at 4.30pm and was scheduled to run until 6.30pm, but after spending most of that time not moving anyway, many taxi drivers simply called it a day and went home.
“It’s eight o’clock now and I’m still bleedin’ stuck here,” one taxi driver told WWN.
Uber recently introduced an optional fixed-price fare, saying it would reduce “meter anxiety.” However, the company did not factor in the “making fuck-all money anxiety” now affecting drivers.
“Yes, we’re very sorry our new fixed charges are impacting drivers,” an Uber executive said, “but the good news is we made over nine billion dollars last year, which should add a little ray of sunshine to all their fares.”
